myCare Start – Implementation Project: Implementation of a new model of care for supporting adherence in people starting a new medication for a long-term condition – An implementation-effectiveness science study.

Brief project description

The myCare Start – Implementation project (myCare Start-I) aims to establish a new interprofessional care model to improve medication initiation adherence in patients starting long-term treatments in Switzerland. Using implementation science methodologies, myCare Start-I seeks to adapt the already established New Medicines Service from the United Kingdom to the Swiss primary care system and evaluate it in a nationwide rollout in 2025. The project has already conducted a comprehensive contextual analysis of the Swiss primary healthcare ecosystem and is now leveraging a theory-driven, co-creation approach with key stakeholders to tailor the intervention to the Swiss context and identify implementation strategies that will ensure its effective delivery.

This research was approved by the Cantonal Commission for Research Ethics (CCER) of Geneva (2023-01161) and the University Ethics Committee of the University of Basel (UEK) and was funded by the Swiss National Science Foundation (SNF), Federal Quality Commission of Switzerland and Swiss Pharmacists Association (pharmaSuisse).
